Upper Works:

Upper works were originally maroon coloured, with gold striping.  There was NO evidence of gold pinstriping on the unique gear covers.
In the following pictures, you will see the gear covers after cleaning off all the chipped and peeled original paint, and further cleaning of the bedplate
in preparation for refinishing.

The original "2" stamp on the straight edge.  Also notice casting marks from unknown bosses below bedplate.

Further disassembly of unit.  Cleaned gear covers are shown.

Gold cleaned and touched up, and fresh paint in the exact color:  1984 VW Rabbit LS "Mahogany Red"  :)

Re-assembly of shifter  mechanisms on bottom of bedplate

The 2 minute gears are in excellent condition.  The 4-minute gears are 70% worn, but useable.  I will be searching for replacement gears to quiet the mechanism.
