Documenting the restoration/cleaning of Edison Home #3229

FRESH, AND UNMOLESTED

ONLY AREA OF CONCERN IS THIS FRACTURE ON THE LEFT OF THE LID, EASY FIX

BEFORE I GET INTO FURTHER DETAILS, DO NOTICE THAT THERE ARE ONLY
TWO SCREWS ON THE REPRODUCER RETAINING CLIPS (NOT FOUR!).  THIS IS HOW
THE MACHINE LOOKED WHEN I OPENED IT.  I ONLY OILED THE MECHANISM.  IT HAS
SAT UNUSED FOR A LOOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME!  THEY ARE NEVER THIS CLEAN!

THE ORIGINAL CRANK, COMPLETE WITH NATIONAL PHONOGRAPH COMPANY BADGE

THE AUTOMATIC REPRODUCER, DISASSEMBLED.  NEW GASKETS, AWAITING NEW GLASS DIAPHRAGM

ANOTHER VIEW OF BEDPLATE, NOTICE THAT ALL THE GOLD LINES AND DECORATIONS ARE INTACT

THE LID, VERY DIRTY

SOMEONE A LONG TIME AGO THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO PUT WHITE GLUE
INTO THE CRACKS, TO HOLD IT TOGETHER.  ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T REPAIRED
CORRECTLY, THE GLUE DID IN FACT PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE AREA.

THE EARLY MOTOR.  ALTHOUGH NOT THE FAMED CLOCKWORK MOTOR OF THE FIRST HOMES, IT IS NONE
THE LESS EARLY.  FOLLOW THE BRAKE LEVER DOWNWARD.....IT STOPS THE MOTOR BY DEPRESSING THE
GOVERNOR YOLK AGAINST THE FRICTION DISC!

I CAREFULLY SCRAPED ALL OF THE OLD WHITE GLUE OUF OF THE FRACTURES, AND PRESSED THE WOOD FIBERS
BACK INTO A LEVEL POSITION (FROM BELOW).   I WILL ONLY NEED TO FILL IN A FEW LITTLE SLIVERS OF WOOD,
AND A FEW WOOD CHIPS.  JUST SO HAPPENS, I HAVE SOME ORIGINAL EDISON OAK VENEER CHIPS THAT WILL
WORK PERFECTLY FOR THIS JOB!

AFTER GENTLY CLEANING THE CABINET WITH KOTTON KLENSER (ONE APPLICAITON,
NO STEEL WOOL USED.....ALL BY HAND).  I LEFT THE REPAIR AREA DIRTY.  IT WILL BE CLEANED
WHEN IT IS GLUED AND TOUCHED UP.   LOOK AT THAT DECAL GLOW!
