-Gold louvers-

Another curiosity:  the left and right horn "louvers" have an application of gold paint on the back half of each vent.   The paint is VERY OLD,
and DOES offer an aesthetic effect.  When observed from the front corner, each grille reflects back its gold coloring in high contrast to the
mahogany cabinet!

DECISION:  Will save and clean original paint until decision can be made to save/remove the paint. 






And after cabinet refinishing, I applied gold coloured wax to the vents, because if in the future it is proven that the gold is incorrect, it can be easily removed with turpentine without distressing the shellac.
