Although the ENTIRE machine will need to be stripped of its weathered shellac finish, it is absolutely imperitive to save the original decal. 
This is quite possibly THE earliest example. 


Using the tip of a cotton swab, i gently rubbed away a lot of the shellac top-coat (which was brown with age)
and the end result is a decal that is much brighter and more colorful.  It will make final touch-up a lot easier.
